THE VINEYARDS

Here on the Santomè estate, our priority is to produce our own wines solely from grapes grown on the 75 hectares that belong to us, all located in the province of Treviso, but in 4 areas with different soils, where the perfect grape types have been chosen to bring to the fore the characteristics of each terroir.

1

4 hectares in the historic “Nonno Toni” vineyard, in Tezze di Vazzola

2

28 hectares in the “Le Calandrine” vineyard in the Grave di Papadopoli, an island in the River Piave (a 750-hectare nature reserve protected by FAI)

3

40 hectares in the “Carboncine” vineyard in Roncade, home to the winery

4

3 hectares on a Collalto hill known as “Bosco Coste” in Susegana, within the Prosecco Superiore DOCG Valdobbiadene-Conegliano zone

“Nonno Toni” vineyard

This is where it all began, when our grandfather Antonio (known as “Toni”), a farmer and expert winegrower, decided in 1971 to purchase 4 hectares in Vazzola, supplying the grapes grown there to the Cantina Sociale di Valdobbiadene (Valdobbiadene Co-operative Winery).

The vineyard is located along the left bank of the River Piave, with a mixed soil of silt and clay, which is particularly suited to the cultivation of Prosecco, imbuing the wine with unique aromatic notes.

It is here that we produce our Prosecco DOC Treviso.

“Le Calandrine” vineyard

28 hectares, mostly planted with Glera (Prosecco), extend across the prized, untainted island of Papadopoli, where the soil is rich in silt and sand. The island is a 750-hectare nature reserve on the River Piave, protected by FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano). This sacred river is famed for being lined with numerous vineyards cultivated since Roman times.

The terroir is ideal for the production of light, fruity wines and, indeed, offers the optimum conditions for making Prosecco. Thanks to the specific features of the terrain here, these 28 hectares are given over entirely to the production of Prosecco DOC Treviso.

“Carboncine” vineyard

This 40-hectare vineyard is located, like the winery itself, in Roncade, within the area known as the “Carboncine”. This area has always been renowned for the fertility of the soil, which is rich in clay and “caranto”, a sand/marine clay conglomerate mixed with the calcareous cement of the Dolomites – the ideal soil for well-structured, full-bodied wines.

Here, alongside Pinot Grigio, we produce all of our still wines, including our top-of-the-range wines and our riserve, including the native wines Raboso Piave and Tai Bianco, as well as Merlot Parcel #80.

“Bosco Coste” vineyard

This 3-hectare hillside vineyard is located in the heart of the Prosecco Superiore DOCG Conegliano Valdobbiadene zone, within the Collalto district of Susegana. The sun-kissed slope called “Bosco Coste” has soil that is for the most part rich in clay – something that helps to bring out the fruity, floral notes that are essential for the production of Prosecco Superiore DOCG.

It is here that we produce our Prosecco Millesimato Superiore DOCG Valdobbiadene Conegliano, in its Brut and Extra Dry versions.
